Myth: Eating chocolate and greasy food gives you pimples
Fact: There’s no evidence to suggest that chocolate or greasy food will give you pimples. But there is evidence to suggest that a healthy diet can help give you healthy skin. So if pimples are a problem, try upping your intake of fruit, vegetables and lean proteins, and keeping junk food to a minimum. Using skincare products that combat pimples and impurities, such as the NIVEA Pure Effect range, will also help.
Myth: If your cosmetics contain sunscreen, you don’t need to wear additional sun protection
Fact: Sticking to your sunscreen-enriched foundation or moisturiser is fine if you’ll only be in the sun for a while. But they won’t give your skin enough protection from the sun’s damaging rays if you’ll be spending a lot of time outdoors. So make sure you also use a proper sunscreen that will protect your skin from both UVA and UVB rays, such as those in our NIVEA Sun range.
Myth: More expensive skincare products are more effective than cheaper ones
Fact: Less expensive products can still contain the same quantity of active ingredients as pricier versions. Here at NIVEA, for example, we’re dedicated to providing high quality skincare at affordable prices. And because we spend €150m a year on research and development, you can be sure that our products are highly effective – even if they don’t have the price tag to match!
Myth: Drinking lots of water will keep your skin moisturised
Fact: “The amount of water alone does not determine whether the skin can be optimally supplied with moisture,” says Dr. Annika Schrader, one of NIVEA’s skin researchers. “One of the critical factors is how it is distributed in the skin layers.” So while drinking water is a step in the right direction, it’s not enough to prevent dry skin on its own. NIVEA moisturisers and body lotions enriched with Hydra IQ can give your skin the extra helping hand it needs, as they both lock in moisture and support optimal water distribution throughout the skin.
Myth: Natural skincare products are always better for your skin
Fact: Sometimes, synthetic products or ingredients can actually be safer or more effective. Natural fragrances, for instance, can often pose a very high allergy risk. And don’t forget that many “non-natural” skincare products still contain many natural or nature-inspired ingredients. But while natural isn’t necessarily “better”, many people prefer it. That’s why we offer NIVEA Pure & Natural alternatives alongside many of our traditional skincare ranges, so you can choose what works best for you.
